Indian pugilist Vijender Kumar creates Olympian history

Indian sensation Vijender Kumar, recreated history once again at the 2008 Olympics, as he won the 1st ever Olympics medal for India in the boxing arena. Vijender is the right choice as the country's flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

Though India wanted him to go for the gold, winning the bronze is no small achievement as not only did he become the 1st Indian to win a medal in boxing, he 'fought' his way to reach this 'peak'. Agreed that Bronze is no where near the Gold, let us not forget that this lad won the Metal beating his opponents all the way to the quarter finals, at the same time getting good enough doses of physical blows.

Abhinav Bindra's Gold is definitely an outstanding accomplishment and deserves the necessary accolades...Vijender's Bronze was a notch above as his game involved immense physical and mental agony, that too over several bouts. Vijender had to LITERALLY fight his way to the top-physically toppling his adversaries and marching ahead.

Kudos to Vijender who deserves a grand reception, back home...and hopefully, renowned politicians, Government and Sports officials will be present at the airport hosting the warm welcome.

You have said it all, Nishit. India will slowly emerge from the shadows and we will see a marked improvement in our medal tally in London.
