Farmers calling the shots, not respecting the Supreme law authority, holding their countrymen at ransom

On January 12, farmer leaders in India welcomed the Supreme Court's order to stay the implementation of three farm laws, but also said they would not call off their protest until the laws are repealed.

In a statement, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) also said that they will not participate in any court-ordered committee process.

The Supreme Court suspended the implementation of the three farm laws until further notice and decided to set up a committee comprising experts to hear the parties and understand the ground situation.

I'm no authority, nor judge, nor 'farm law' expert to pass a judgement. I also understand that 'farmers' are crucial for our country and they need to be respected. However, as a normal person, common sense throws these questions:

1). For decades, everything was hunky-dory and in-place for the Indian farmers?

2). Were not the farmers in a troubled state and committing suicide before 2014?

3). How can the farmers as well as other Indians be so naïve or ignorant to not observe the obvious — that the Opposition is making merry, instigating the farmers and taking every possible opportunity in government-bashing? Don't they understand that actually, the Opposition is laughing at their cost and firing veiled salvos at them?

4). Farmers are against a few 'reforms'. How did they come to pass? Were they an act of dictatorship or by the law of the land?

5). Other countries and foreign leaders are supporting these agitating farmers. This is outrageously ridiculous and also a threat to India's security! How can the farmers as well as the Opposition tolerate foreign intrusion and interference?

6). If the 'farmers protest' is understood as an act of democracy, then what about the three laws that were passed? Were not they an act of democracy?

7). Normally, a protest cannot be prolonged, well-planned, and sophisticated unless there is a force with an ulterior motive and an agenda which is actually detrimental to the country.

8). There are people supporting the Opposition and adding fuel to the fire. Why were the supporters silent for several decades? Why was such a movement not mobilised earlier?

If today the farmers are calling the shots, not respecting the law of the land, and holding their countrymen at ransom — tomorrow it'll be another set of people, in another form. I'm sure if we (including the farmers) are rational, use common sense and think normally, most of our problems will be solved, or at least take us to solutions. The farmers are dear to me, and I hope sense prevails — throughout!
